Paul is the middle child of this feature in regards to how far each person’s home is from Pittsburgh. Hailing from a small town just outside of Hartford, Connecticut, Paul arrived in Pittsburgh as a result of wanting to take part in a quality broadcasting program at a university with a solid reputation. Out of the people interviewed for this site, Paul has the most experience with different American cities. He has been to several major cities in the northeast including Boston and New York, as well as southern cities like Tampa/ St. Petersburg.

Being a fan of sports, Paul’s image of Pittsburgh prior to his arrival here was based on what he knew from the various sports teams. He didn’t learn much from watching the pirates, mainly because they weren’t successful up until two years ago. At several points in the interview, he discusses Pittsburgh as a sports city. He says that the Steelers have probably the second largest fan base in the NFL, and that he hasn’t seen a city that is so serious and loyal to their teams.

Once he got here, Paul was amazed by the cleanliness of the city. He relates it to Boston and New York, talking about how those two vast cities are much more chaotic. Like the other interviewees, Paul appreciates the calmness of a small city. Equally amazing to the cleanliness in Paul’s opinion was the way that the city shuts down after dark. This is because of how few people actually live downtown, which again is very different than a city like Boston.

Paul does not yet know for certain where the future will take him. He says that it is not his intention to stay here, but would if the opportunity presented itself, he would be happy to stay. He is grateful for what Pittsburgh has taught him and will always appreciate this city.

Despite saying that he never really feels like he is anywhere outside of the city, Paul does have some places he thinks are good for breaking up the sometimes chaotic bustle of the city. For example, the river walk in Point State Park. He also appreciates Pittsburgh’s great stadiums.
